Tikka T3 Varmint
Spose I could look, but thought I would just ask anyway, what are those members who have these rifles in 223Rem using in the way of projectiles and powder. Been asked to sort out a load for one of these, so far the fella has been using factory ammo which is proving to be too inconsistent for roo shooting so he wants me to investigate and help him with it. I have Sierra 1365k 55gn on hand and 50gn Zmax, 2208 and 2207 powder. Once sorted Ill just buy him a heap and then load them for him. Anyone want to hand off a dozen or so of other projectiles, all donations will be welcome as long as they are bulk buy stuff.

Why don't you give some of those Varmint R B&T's a trot and see how they go?

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint
Cause he is a cheap arse and doesnt want to spend too much on projectiles, will see how the two I have available go and take it from there, havent heard of many rifles that wont shoot them reasonably well.
Thanks Jack, hoping to use what we have readily available out here, dunno if I can get 8208 locally.jacksaligari wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 4:53 pm Hey camel I got a couple of mates with t3 223 one is shooting 50 zmax very well he was using it for head shooting Roos commercially he’s using 8208 23 grain of the top off my head but I’d have too double check

Ive been using the 55gr sierra super roos which I bought on special for $135/1000 - I think they are about 155 now but still make stuff dead and shoots 3/4 moa in my shitty savage so imagine what you could do with a McTikka. But having said that they don't have a flash red or green plastic tip on them which may be a deciding factor for some folk I am using BM2 under the 55gr's

I like the Sierra blitzking 55gr but the hornady 55gr are great value and quite accurate.
I have bought a bunch of zmax but haven’t tried them. Others have recommended them.

Fuck me, if its on facebook its gotta be the magic potion, doesn't it.
Yep, that was going to be my first port of call, 25 or 26gn 2208 and super roos in ww cases with rem7 1/2, it worked in my Zastava anyway.

The Facebook loading pages are a hoot. A very significant number of members who think load development is a post saying “what’s your best load for.....”

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint
Mates accuracy load is 26.5 of 2208 fed gold primer and 55gr Sierra super roo. My tikka has a SLOW barrel and takes a lot of powder to get to speed. DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT WORKING UP but I use 27gr of bm8208 with fed gold primers and 55gr super Roos. Doing 3400fps and is warm but no sticky bolt lift and the primers are not totally flat. I have tested this load in middle of hot summer days and it is safe IN MY RIFLE. The load my mate uses does 3300fps in his rifle, in mine it doesn’t get to 3200fps hence why I say my barrel is slow. Tested with labradar and magnetospeed chronographs.

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint
When I get close to the bottom of my tub of BM2 I'm actually going to try and work up a load using 2208 - would mean I can use the same powder in 223, 6br, 7mm08 and 30-06 and good enough reason to start buying in the big tubs

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint
Thanks Brad, and I thought I was being adventurous loading 26gn 2208 when ADI reckon 25.5 is max. A few years ago that was their starting for 2208 and 55gners, guess the lawyers must have been pissing in their ear.
Yeah James, I got a heap of 2208 years ago, was using it in just about everything except the 300Winmag and 20 cal and 17 cal, its pretty good stuff. I will need to get another lot soon I spose.

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint
Powder varies in burn rate from batch to batch. What might be safe at 26 could be warm in the next lot. But generally my findings is your not going to be able to get enough 2208 in there to cause too much trouble. Of course you need to do your own pressure testing. People think I’m nuts putting nearly 2gr over max charge of bm8208 in there, but when you see what the gun is saying it’s fine. Maybe a little louder than normal but fine. Cases are holding up well haven’t seen a loose primer pocket yet.
