Looking good Rob, though why you would trade down from the "Winerack" astounds me.

I assume you mean no contrasting fore end tip - that is what I would do to, and is what I did on my Parker Hale.

What I meant was whether you might reshape it a little. It looks very blunt and square, and to my eyes is a little out of place on a stock that otherwise has beautiful flowing lines.

Correct, no contrasting tip.
It is blunt but to be honest I’m not sure I could get it symmetrical if I was to try and reshape it.
What did you do on yours? How hard was it to keep it symmetrical?
Cheers,
Rob

I shaped it to a smooth curve by hand - see LHS in the photo below.

Not worried about harming myself (I can use a chainsaw and cutting/stabbing implements), more getting it out of shape. That would lead to a shortening of the rifle as I tried to square it up again. Lol

Did a bit more in the last week or so.
Didn’t trust myself doing free hand drilling of holes (don’t have a vice or anything) so paid Russell a visit while his shoulder is on the mend and became an apprentice gunsmith for an hour or so. Top bloke is Russell. ImageImage

Just need to do some profile work on the forend to balance it out and then it’s final sanding before staining.

Good stuff Rob. Love a build thread. Really keen to see how it comes together.

You have a few interesting projects on the go at the moment. Very thoughtful of you when we are all locked down.

Just doing my bit to keep everyone occupied in iso lockdown Marcus.

It’s starting to look a lot better. Amazing what a recoil pad and sling studs do to a bit of wood.
Liking the black stripe down the side too.
I think the black on the cheek piece is actually rubber residue from grinding the pachmyer recoil pad. Lol

So did you grind the recoil pad down, or did Russell? How was it done?

I mount my belt sander upside down in the bench vise. Agricultural but seems to work - would be the perfect method for a Zasty :D
