Wow!

See the bloke standing next to the log in the picture, 5 t0 6 foot across trunk!
That is a huge walnut tree!

They dig around the stump and cut the roots off and lift the tree out.

The highly figured base of the tree is the butt of the the stock and the straighter grain trunk is the forend.

The grain is just spectacular!

As a point of interest, the harsher the country a Walnut grows in the better the figuring.

some very purdy woody there...
ive been on the hunt for a root ball for a while.lots of clearing going on out here,but nothing that catches the eye just yet.

checked out the the turkish sites prices and saw $2500 USD and said bye bye, but it was nice to look at

Could you just imagine one of those blanks, the time and amount of money put into converting it to a useable stock, then jamming it onto the rack on the door of the ute and belting across a paddock chasing foxes or pigs. :lol: :lol:

Roger got me into shooting. He has a couple of HUGE stores of seasoned timber. Only in Porepunkah Andrew. Should see what he uses for his fire place. Yep. Walnut offcuts.

how true about taking a stock like that out shooting !!!! don't even handle it !!!! but outstanding to look at :D

It's a shame we can't have glass firearm cabinets like they do in the US. Great way to display those bits of timber.

We can have glass cabinets here, just have to be designed and built to the commissioners recommended standards and you are all good. :D
