Been looking for ages for a shooting bench i can take out the farm with me and sight off bags instead of lying prone on the gravel.
Went to the local tip saturday morning and picked up a tressle table for ten bucks. Got home tonight, unscrewed the fold up legs, attacked it with a jigsaw and screwed the legs back on.
$10 and half an hour of effort later...
Might get some carpet remnants and carpet the top to make it look a bit nicer and be easier on the elbows too. I have a screw up jack lying around too, I might get a plate set up on it and have a bag to sit on that more like a proper benchrest.
Can I suggest some bits of pipe welded to the sides of the legs so you can peg it down to stop the wobble a bit, as nice flat ground is hard to find out in the scrub sometimes
I have been working on something in my mind using a scissor jack for a front rest so lets see what you come up with I was going to use some foam I had lying around to attach to the jack for the front rest and attach the jack base to some decent plate to make it sturdy.
Cheers fellas, its actually quite sturdy, but I will think about some extra stabilisation if it needs it... Wont get to shoot from it til at least friday arvo.
Being a lefty, it had to have the cutout on my preferred side. It also means my right handed shooting buddies will suffer for once ahahhahaha.
Hahahaha brilliant man that darwin. If I finish work early enough tomorrow, I will get out and test the sucker, still havent done anything in terms of the front rest, but will get a couple of sandbags out there and have a bit of fun.
Well brad left his bench at my joint after a weekend away , so after he helped me out with some stuff for me .17Fireball i thought i'd wreck his precious little bench MUahahah.
Rounded all the right angles , re-routered all the edges , marked out and recessed enough room for the carpet (so it is close to flush) , a couple of coats of sealer/varnish , painted the legs and cut out the carpet .
After putting it all together this is how she now looks.
