HW100 + Hares + Baracudas

Post by B4408 »

:hunting: Neighbour asked me to cull a couple of hares that are chewing on his young trees in the garden. He is on a few acres surrounded by a dairy farm. Went up at sunrise this morning with the HW100 .22 and saw one loping around the garden so I snuck through the carport and waited for him to come out from behind a shrub.
An 18.2gn Baracuda Hunter just behind the front leg at 25m. He went about 5m and he sat still so thought I hadn't hit him very well, with a better rest gave him another Baracuda to just below the ear. That finished the job.
Thought I would see what damage the chest shot did and recover pellet. Broke one rib on entry, smashed lungs and exited between ribs on far side, chest cavity full of blood. So he was dead after the first shot.
The H&N Baracuda Hunters are doing about 830fps, more than enough for this type of hunting. Still a couple more hares hiding in the garden, will have to finish the job. :hunting:
Few autopsy pics to show the damage.

Hares certainly hold a lot of blood.

Yeah. The entry and exit holes were just punctures and closed up and the chest cavity was full of blood. Disapointed I couldn't recover the pellet.

Air rifles are certainly a lot more gun than the ones I played with in my younger years.
Nice shot
