Found this little gem
Tucked away on a gun rack behind a heap of stuff almost out of sight in a LGS, turns out after research to be a Diana mod 20 nickel tinplate and has stamped in the stock 7.30 which I've found out is the year of manufacture July 1930.
After cleaning and lubing all the joints and chamber lubing down the transfer port and leaving stand upright overnight for the piston seal to have a drink it turns out to be a dead accurate ( for a smoothbore ) gun as most guns of this type have non adjustable sights so this one is lucky to shoot dead on straight at 6 metres.
Very happy with this find, tons of fun as a plinker, can't put it down.

Welcome to the forum and an interesting item for your first post.
Since it is a smooth bore do you use round shot ( BB) or normal pellets? 17cal?

Re: Found this little gem
Welcome to the Forum Andrew.
Hey, I was offered a Crackerjack last week for nothing but declined the offer. As you know I'm not shy of resurrecting but this poor baby was beyond that stage; stock cracked in multiple places, rust was so well established there were deep pithing and a bent cocking arm. That's before I even wanted to look inside. Sometime they just have to be allowed to go peacefully to Airgun Heaven aka VicPol crusher.
It's getting to the stage where I'm getting called from LGS before they do a trip to VicPol.
Cheers. Geoff
PS. Are you going to the shoot next week?

This may be a silly question, but I've noticed some of the 'older' air rifles don't appear to have serial numbers. How is that handled for registration purposes? I guess you'd need to get something stamped on them.

Not just air rifles Raven, allot of the older rifles never had them.
I have a Winchester Mod 04 .22rf that has had a number stamped/engraved/gouged into the woodwork.
However the metalwork is still a "cleanskin".

Re: Found this little gem
As you say, a lot of the old ones don't have serial numbers. A gunsmith friend in NE Vic wanted a client's Diana 27 serviced. I was in the area so he asked me to help him perform open heart surgery.
His client found it in the back of his late father's wardrobe and wanted it restored. It had no serial number so the number stamps came out and 4832975 was placed on the action. It was then put through LRD and registered. Only then did we started work on it.

Good question, there isn't a serial number anywhere. The Raven wrote:This may be a silly question, but I've noticed some of the 'older' air rifles don't appear to have serial numbers. How is that handled for registration purposes? I guess you'd need to get something stamped on them.
When applying for the PTA you no longer have to fill in all the details eg caliber, serial number etc for cat A so when I picked it up just this last Friday from the dealer I asked that very question, does it have a serial number? he said yes here it is in the book but when I got it home I couldn't find a number.
Will have to wait and see when the registration certificate arrives as what he listed it as.
My BB guns and Daisy Targeteer pistol also don't have serial numbers so I have used the patent number as the registered serial number

Re: Found this little gem
G'day Andrew and again, welcome to the forum. That's a very nice old air rifle you have found there. I reckon there would be plenty stashed away all over the country that are still there to be "found".
Thanks to you air rifle blokes, this forum has come alive again, Keep up the good work. Its always good to see new fellas getting stuck in and enjoying it.
