pumping a PCP?

Post by Waldo »

Excuse the air rifle newbie question but is a bicycle (I run 120PSI on my road bike) floor pump suitable to pressurize a PCP slug gun?

Cheers,
Waldo

pumping a PCP?

Can not answer the pressure question but apparently with normal pumps you need some sort of water separator as the internals do not appreciate the moisture. Someone with more knowledge on the subject should be along shortly.

You need 3000 psi = 200 bar . With my FX pump It's not too bad pumping after shooting around 32 shots. It is about two pumps per shot. I usual us a scuba tank easer.

^^^^ what he said

My PCP pistols run 200bar (3000psi) pump goes to 300bar so well short with a standard bike pump, compressor or anything else bar specialist equipment.
Pistol cylinders are quite small and I get roughly 3 shots to a pump but it is hard work when you get the cylinder above 150bar. No way I would go a PCP hunting rifle without a scuba tank to fill from I think some of them run 3 or more pumps per shot.

Thanks guy's, I have very little knowledge about the air powered stuff and not much more on the kaboom type stuff

For some reason I've developed an interest in one of the new fangled slug guns, must be my 3rd or 4th childhood I'm entering? That kind of rules out PCP's then as they are just a bit expensive for a play plus pump/tanks, etc. oh well.

OH well, I'll look and learn some more and see where I end up.

Thanks again for the replies.

Hi Waldo,

The Hills Mk4 pump with Dry Pack moisture extraction system is what you want mate. It gets about as much moisture out of the air as dry Scuba Air & is the only pump that has readily available spares kits & instructions on how to service them.

I stock them & they are $380 incl postage if of interest.

Cheers,

Thanks Matt, the air rifle thing is just a small itch at present. If I ignore it maybe it will go away

The manufacturer made some improvements in upgrading the MkIII to IV. Seems easier to pump. The dry pack is a must. I've opened a mate's PCP and there was surface rust on the inside of the air resevoir. We only opened it because the muzzle velocity was getting erratic. Caught it just in time. Some water was found on the knock off valve causing it to behave weirdly. :D

The AR itch doesn't go away. It only gets worse. If you are intending to go down that track, value for money at the moment is the BSA Bucaneer. Weihrauch springers are still the go to range. Send me a PM if you want more info.

Warning, duly noted

Hopefully this itch does go away as last time I had an itch I ended up with a SXS, time before that a Ruger No. 1, before that......................

Waldo, you should know by experience by now that there isn't any use fighting, you just have to give it a good old scratch. :D Maybe you should keep away from the dogs for a while, you sure its not fleas

Yeh Camel, I know I'm just a bit weak nothing else to say on that matter.

Gotta admit every time I think about an air rifle I think "gee, I could buy a shitload of ammo for the .22LR for that coin and just shoot the living daylights out of that".

Hey, leave my dogs out of this they're just innocent bystanders that like spending time with me and someone to talk to when I'm out hunting :D
