Springer Tuning Kits here in Aussie

Post by mattw975 »

Hi Guys,

For those that don't know me, as a toolmaker, qualified engineer & airgun tuner I've started making tuning kits for spring guns (top hats, thrust washers, spring guides + springs, piston seals & lubes).

I specialise in Weihrauchs, but have done some for Diana 31/34, GAMO, Webley (Omega, Vulcan, etc) & the mighty Beeman Kodiak.

If your guns piston seal & spring are relatively new, I say leave em in. What I do is ask the gun owner to send me the spring ends. I then fine grind & polish the spring & make up a made to measure top hat, spring guide & thrust bearing from Delrin to suit.

This will all but eliminate spring twang, reduce muzzle flip, action noise & make recoil Uni-directional & thus more controllable.

I can also fit the kits for gun owners if they want to get the gun to me on the NSW Central Coast.

For more info email me at: heaven1077@me.com

I am also putting a circular email out soon highlighting what other airgun services I can provide. If you would like to recieve it drop me a mail.

Cheers,

Matt W :)

Hi Matt

Have you improved any maccari installed guns? I have an R9 with a maccari tune, love it, but just wander how it would go with a custom tune. I'm not after big big power but just wonder if it would smooth out any more.

Hi Ryan,

I've neve been compared to a Maccari kit, but a few guys with VMach guns have tried mine & like the results.

I make up a polished thrust washer for the piston, polish the spring ends & all bearing faces to promote the spring rotating.

I also make my guides tighter than most, as when uncocked the spring & guide are at their tightest in a springer (when compressed a spring expands on the diameter). So a tight guide when uncocked helps reduce twang.

Venom Arms back in the day would hammer spring guides into FAC rated HW80's for similar reasons :)

Email me at heaven1077@me.com & I'll send you all the info on what I can do.

Cheers,

Matt W :)

I can vouch for Matt's kits, I sent him the spring out of a very twangy HW80 and he made guides up for it. The difference was truely remarkable :D

Prior to the kit going in I was doing some pest control around horse stables and I had to stop using the 80 as I was upsetting the horses too much. After the tuning kit was in they barely lifted their heads up !

I have a V Mach kit in my HW97 and it is nice, but oneday if going to get Matt to strip it and work his magic on it... I think it can be improved. I wouldnt have probably bothered before as it does shoot nice, but so did my Prosport before he worked on it. Now its an absolute dream :D

I didnt think a AA springer could be improved but I thought Id give him a chance and Im so glad it did.

I've fitted Matt's kits into HW97s, 95, 50, 30 and next a 35. I've used rifles with VMach, Vortek and Macarri kits. Matt's is every bit as good or better as the top hat and spring guide are customised to YOUR spring.

I hope I'm not urinating in Matt's pocket but I think a good quality local product deserves a good rep. Happy to let anyone try my rifles if you're in Vic. :D

Orrrrrrr, you could drag yourself and your gear up the Hume to the next Missathon in September. Cant guarantee the weather, but can guarantee that everything else on the weekend will be well worth the trip. We have a few Victorians who come along. :D

Not such a silly idea Camel. The FT nationals are north of the Vic border in Sept/Oct so I'll have the girls with me anyway.

Hmmmmmm. Tell me more about this Missathon......... 8)

Its an annual get together at Yass mate, organised superbly by Missed, just a fun weekend with shooting, good company, plenty of yarns, plenty of other blokes firearms to try out, the occasional novelty event, and after the shootin is done for the day, plenty of sitting around a camp fire, jabbering shit, drinking the odd beverage, chewing a bit of jerky. Just the average weekend really. :D All members should make an effort to turn up, at least once, no one has ever gone away sorry they turned up. Second weekend in Sept, so keep it free or tie it in with some other thing you have to do.
Keep an eye out in General Discussions, all will be revealed.
If you have a search for Missathon, you should be able to find a couple of reports with photos and a bit of a run down on the shenanigans.
