group shooting at 200 yards

Post by louie the fly »

Hi all,

I want to try and do more testing of my varmint rifles at 200 yards and get a better handle on reading the wind.

As per the photos, I was pretty happy with my groups although I feel the wind did probably get the better of me.

Loads are:
204 Ruger - 39gr sierra blitzking - around 3750fps
25/06 Rem - 90gr sierra blitzking - around 3325fps

Both these loads have been shot over a chronograph but I have doubts regarding its accuracy.

I had a cheap kestral wind reader with me and checking the forecast for the day I came to the conclusion that the wind was around 7-10kmph coming from right to left. I normally just shoot my steel targets out past 200 yards and just hold on the edge if there is some wind at play.

As a side note this is the first time I have done group shooting over the ute - usually I use a table with the bags. Overall I was pleased with the setup.

Happy hunting

Best way to see what the wind does is to set the targets out further than the standard 100m sight in distance

The 25/06 would have been a bit lively of the bags
