I've been enjoying my Browning X-Bolt in 270, after struggling with another rifle for too long. The X-Bolt ('composite' model) is lighter than all of my other centrefires, which makes it ideal out in the field. Damn loud with the muzzle brake though.

On my last trip it knocked over everything I aimed at, including 2.5 deer in under a minute. The half deer was a joint kill, me on second shot.

Is there any particularly reason for your calibre and/or rifle choice? It may help if us to come up with suitable suggestions?

The reason for brand choice in this case was because of the 24" barrel and the fact that I can pick up one for $850.
My next choice on brand was ( funny you should say that ) the Browning X bolt or a Tikka T3X.
Reason for caliber?
Well I am looking for something with long range accuracy for both hunting and a bit of friendly target shooting.
I have been tossing up between a 6.5 Creedmoor and the 270 win.

I have told you by pm that I have a hankering for a long range 6.5 but it won’t be a creedmore. I have had a 270 a long long time ago. Recoil isn’t fierce but it will want to jump about a bit in a light rifle so shooting small groups will not be impossible but more challenging than the creedmore. Raven’s 270 has been tamed and as long as you and your companions have earmuffs in the louder report is not an issue.
I have a win model 70 which I am fond of but can’t comment on the model you have selected. I googled for a picture and found a couple of good on line reviews.

Cheers guys, I have a distinct feeling that I won't know what way I go until I actually walk in the gun shop with the money.

No I don’t mean he was selling one but he shot a t3 varmint in 260 at 500m fly. I would say he has a strong opinion on that rifle and calibre.

This rifle will be used for fox's, goats, kangaroos (with permit) and deer if I can ever find one in S.A.
As far as target shooting goes I would like to stretch it's legs and my ability out to 1000
