Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
Magnum Sports have just listed the Howa Mini rifles for $830. Anyone going to get one and see what they are like?

Re: Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
$830 for a blue sported with a hogue stock? Eek that's exy. That being said I always thought Howas were under-priced and people saw them as an alternative to the Ruger Americans and Savage Axis rather than the Rem 700, Tikka and Savage middle of the road firearms.
They need to get a better standard stock than the Hogue as its doing a great disservice to an otherwise outstanding rifle.

I agree 100%, the howa is a nice action but i'm not a fan of the Hogue stocks.

What $8-900 rifle would you not change the stock on?
Serious question, not being smart.

I wouldn't mind one in 204 when they decide to release em but I'd also like to wait and see how the reviews of them go before putting any money down (I'd rather let others be the guinea pigs before I put my hard earned on anything) always been that way about anything new on the market, let others find the bugs/probs them buy when they are sorted.

Easy, a Zastava.DSD wrote:What $8-900 rifle would you not change the stock on?

Function over form yes, but utilitarian and timber to boot.
Though of course it does depend on what you are going to use said rifle for.
A hunting rifle or a donor action.
Hunting rifle or starting out in LR shooting.
Restocking depends on the individual and what they want their rifle to be capable of doing, or purely for aesthetics.

Re: Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
None of my tikkas are restocked, they aren't great but it isn't worth restocking.
Lots of timber stocks that don't need to change in that price bracket either.
Sorry the hogue makes the Howa feel like an American or Axis.

Re: Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
Just had a play with one at our country shop down here, $830.00I think the price was which for a small shop is great. Its a bloody nice action, smooth as silk on this example, can't wait to see if the rumours re 6.5Grendel and 7.62x39 are correct.
Just on the OP re Magnum, never dealt with them before. I just bought a 2nd hand CZ 527 hornet, leupy3-9x40 for $900.00 delivered, true Exactly as described, fantastic condition. We have all heard the horror stories of poorly described rifles, this mob were terrific.

Re: Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
I've bought a few scopes and plenty of projies from Magnum. Very good
Keith is a Tikka under $900 new. Kerriets definitely doesn't need a stock change but reckon they are more that $900

Yep, biggest turn off, they should be available as a floor plate internal mag option. I spose the only thing with the hang down magazine is it makes it look cool to some.

Re: Howa Mini Sporter/Varminter
I did'nt find the magazine a turn off, the whole package was balanced very nicely. I'm sure a 5 shot will be available for them and probably a hinged floor plate mag as after market. But me, I like the CZ magazines others don't, horses for courses
