Restocking the Anschutz .222

Post by Branxhunter »

I bought this rifle a number of years ago for $250 without scope:

I stripped the crappy finish off the stock, steamed out some dents, an refinished with Tru-oil:

While I love the nice slim forend the pronounced drop in the comb has always made it less that ideal for scope use. The opportunity came up to buy a second hand stock quite cheaply so jumped on it. I would have preferred not to have the roll over comb, and would have rather had the schnabnel forend, but as soon as I put the scoped barrelled action in the stock I knew it was meant to be - it feels great and places my eye nice and level with the scope.

Here are a couple of photos with it as bought:

I have since stripped the finish off, steamed out most of the dents, and am currently refinishing with Organoil:

It will never be as nice as some of my other stocks but will be a good serviceable rifle that better fits me.

Have used one of those Anschutz stocks with rollover comb and they are pretty comfortable and quite attractive IMO. Your refinish is looking good. Some nice figure there showing through the Organoil. Have used that product myself on a number of stocks and like it a lot.
