3 Varmints

Post by Sako 22-250 »

Hi All
I have enjoyed browsing this forum for a few years now
Thanks for all the good reading!
Thought it was about time I posted
I have 3 varmint rifles
Sako 85 stainless 243 with a Zeiss Duralyt 3-12 x 50
Sako 85 22-250 with a Zeiss Victory Ht 3-12 x56
Tikka T3 308 with a Loopy VXR 4-12x 50
( caught the Sako bug bad back in the late 70s with my first rifle purchase a vixen varmint 222 have been afflicted ever since)
All 3 guns shoot moa with factory loads
My best groupings with factory ammo :
243 70g HP Winchester varmint special
22-250 Hornady 50 g Superformance
308 Federal 130g HP
Most of my hunting of late has been for foxes ,rabbits @ cats

(And the occasional Sambar and Fallow )
Early days was it was goats & pigs @ cats (lived for a while in mid west NSW)

Favourite pastime is whistling foxes and spotlighting feral cats

Regards 22-250

Thanks for welcome Marcus
Stories to follow
Raven ... Yes is a looker but not now it's covered up , found the high gloss finish prone to scratching see pic below
My son and I were at a friends property a couple of weeks ago to help with some mustering of cattle ..late on the Saturday afternoon after duties were completed we headed out for to whistle foxes in a back paddock we parked the ute walked about 50 yards into the paddock when my son noticed flickering in a stand of wattles about 200 metres away it was a fallow buck bedded down
As we were out in the open had not been seen he dropped two 95g hornady ssts into the action
And took a shot
He only needed one hit the buck low in the neck .. ran 80yds and dropped
No foxes that afternoon but a little rack and a freezer full of venison and a nice roast dinner Monday night
Regards Mark

I thought I might have seen the photos of the rifles before; the photo of your son with the deer confirms it - also posted over on SCC?

So what happened with your original .222?

The metal tool box it lived in was pried open while we were away on a family holiday

Thanks Trevort
My 243 was almost a 204 ..the amount of fallow on a friends property swayed me in the end
Big G from your avatar thought you would enjoy a pic below of my 3 legged cat

Thanks Camel & Misssed
Yes a Big Sarko fan.....
And there is a lot of Aussie members on SCC.... Sako's seem to be a lot more popular and in oz than the U.S. (I have been told they were very popular with the pro Roo shooters back in the 60's& 70 especially when topped with a Pecar scope)
