AUS VARMINT LIVE CHAT FEB 6th 2007

Post by kjd »

Aus Varminter's is pleased to announce that the first two special guests of the new "Live Chats" will be appearing on Tuesday the 6th of February at 8:30pm EST.

Our Guest speakers will be:

Samara McPhedran ( President of the International Coalition of Women in Shooting and Hunting)
and
Dr Jeanine Baker (whose expertise covers: International firearms issues, especially the south Pacific region,
domestic firearms issues, feral pest control (her professional career is
population dynamics specialising in colonisation and invasion of exotic
species).

Who are the co authors of:
GUN LAWS AND SUDDEN DEATH
Did the Australian Firearms Legislation of 1996 Make a Difference?

The paper which was published October 18, 2006 in the British Journal of Criminology

Which has caused quite a stir all over the world but has been and will continue to be a huge tool to fight the anti-gun groups.

I recommend reading one of the two links below:

To Download the full report go here:

Or read the summary of the above report:
http://www.ausvarmint.com/files/Executive_Summary.pdf

The two have also recently released a critque of Dr Simon Chapman's "Australia’s 1996 gun law reforms" Pointing out the short comings and oversights of Dr Chapman's paper.
Found here:

I encourage everyone to pop in, say hello and ask a few questions about what these two remarkable women are doing for us. I consider these two ladies amongst the best fighters for our shooting rights in the country. Without these two ladies we would be a lot worse off.

Some interesting reading there, Chapman et al appear to have some serious errors of methodology in statistical analysis and there are fundamental issues that are not dealt with..

The lack of control and consistency when making claims based on statistics is alarming, the misinterpretation of the results of certain analysis is critical in supporting their case, such mistakes call into question the validity of the work in a major way. I certainly would be hesitant to claim in an official capacity that Chapman et al was strong support for the current gun laws.

Not the ones that leave us speechless!!!

Looking forward to the discussion - there are a lot of very aware firearms owners following national and international issues relating to firearm owners.
