Spent a few hours yesterday fishing with the kids, not bitting as well as Friday but we managed to land 10 between us in a few hours.
Majority yesterday were in the 18-23cm range a few bigger nice pan sized ones among them but we let the lot go. Once again we got hit or lost probably 3 times as many as we landed even managed a couple of little rainbows.
The majority of the fish are in the 18-30cm range although every year manage to catch one close to 50cm, small lures are the go, seems to increase the success on the little blokes. Yesterday Sophie and I were using 1/8 oz vibrax blue fox, Mitch fished a couple of sections 5min behind us with a 3/16oz celta and caught a few first or second cast where they hadn't even looked at us. Little bit different colouration on the lures but I think it was the slightly smaller size that really encouraged them to bite given they were at the smaller end size wise.

Bit of a bump 4 weeks to go until the 9/10th.
28 day weather forecast is saying zero to low chance of rainfall for the weekend so I guess that means 2-3" again
Had a light frost up the farm yesterday morning so anything is possible weather wise but it will be cooler than the flat country regardless.

Better start getting numbers for next weekend 9/10th so who is in?
110 took his non fishing girl friend fishing for a hour or so Monday, they landed 2 each, all 20-25cm so borderline on being legal size but at least they are bitting.
Few improvements on the hut from last year, external cladding is done on the front wall, internal wall cladding and insulation is just about done. Should be enough room for a dozen or so swags inside. Will have a 4 burner BBQ down there again for who ever wants to use it and will do a lamb on the spit again Sat night.
If anyone has a shade shelter/gazebo they can bring along might make drinking conditions more comfortable.

I am a non starter, still in Tassie.
But for the record . . . . Lochie caught 2 Rainbow Trout last week. 4 and 4.5lb cleaned. So we are there in spirit if not in body.
I will send the photo to Missed, if you would be so kind to add to this thread, as only have my phone with me.

Nice fish, caught a few out of the creek around the 50cm mark but being creek fish a few pounds normally pulls them up.

I like those type of photos, good times with his grand dad, and a nice feed to go with it.
Hey Dave, the apple didn't fall far from the tree with that one.

A few showers this week so threw a line in to see if they were still bitting. Little rainbow first cast, had a couple more casts from the same spot but no takers, moved about 10m and got another little rainbow around 20cm. 2 fish in half dozen casts and less than 5 min.
Gave the hut a quick clean, dropped of the spit, dug the toilet hole and knocked over a lamb for the spit.
Weather looks good, high 20's low 30's for the weekend and less than 5% chance of rain

Just waiting for daisy to arrive before we head up the farm.
Smoked trout planned for dinner tonight so we better catch a few
Not to late for some late comers or anyone that wants to make a day trip Sat or Sun, missed should be arriving sometime tomorrow with the tribe.
Expect plenty of pics with fish in them.
