Your just ahead of me Barry. :D Finished the offside checkering a couple of weeks ago. Have been rubbing in some more oil and buffed it up yesterday. Hi Geoff, I will try the thumbnail trick. If it ends up checkered I will think of you, need to be careful as the thumb is already missing a bit from the middle.
I use a sharp knife to scrape , already learnt that one.

Re: Sako L461 varmint stock - DIY
Picked up the checkering tools today. Was in the right mood to get started. As I have a lot of experience having done one rifle before and that was four years ago   . It was a slow start setting out and making the first cuts. Once I relaxed and got in the groove it went ok, took my time......

Very clever I am as impressed with you jigs as much as I am with the stock That is some work to be truly proud of Am I correct that you bedded the action while you still had a "block" of wood with just the action and barrel channel milled out? C Yes. I glued in some pillars to set the hei...

Re: Sako L461 varmint stock - DIY
Finished for the weekend. After a lot of sitting and contemplating I got stuck into it and hoped that a rifle stock starts coming out of the piece of wood. I 3D printed a few templates for butt and floorplate to give some guidance and also draw lines everywhere then ignore most of them. I use the ci...

Re: Sako L461 varmint stock - DIY
Ned, that was the one I copied the idea from. Barry, tempting to have a matched pair but I would have to buy another Sako. :D   A bit of progress. Lots of time spent but not much to show. Have the action glued in. Used some masking tape to give clearance on front and sides of recoil lug an...

Sako L461 varmint stock - DIY- Now 20/222
I bought a sporter 222mag last year and have decided to give it a makeover. One of my goals for this year was to shape a walnut stock and checker it. Barry B had a piece of walnut I bought and will be glad to see it get used. I've made a couple of other stocks which are on this site but only used so...

Re: Stihl Battery Chainsaw
It's done well, but RRP $500 for the skin only! Yep, not cheap and why I have waited a while. I think the convenience will be worth it in long run, probably get the whipper snipper next year. Its like battery tools, need to buy into a system then stick with it. Barry a bit bigger the your Jenny's s...
