Wanted – a companion for extended camping and hunting trips.

I’m a semi-retired Science Teacher who greatly appreciates quality time camping and hunting rabbits (.22 Model 2 Brno & Browning pump action), feral cats, foxes, goats and pigs (I reload my .243 Win Browning B78 High Wall falling block single shot rifle). I’ve been a keen camper, bushwalker and ...

Re: Some Browning B78 High Wall pics & related data...

Camel, in addition to being keenly attracted by the B78's unique lever activated falling block action I really favour the challenge of consciously knowing that I only have one round readily available to humanely dispatch selected prey. Accordingly, I'm a lot more premeditated with my stalking skills...

Re: Some Browning B78 High Wall pics & related data...

Branxhunter, what can I say.....talk about a truly classic, beautiful and finely constructed firearm. I nearly cried recently when mine unexpectedly slipped off my Cruiser's dew covered bonnet. It was parked on a slight slope and in the process of hitting the ground the extended legs of the Harris b...

Comparative Browning 1885 High vs Low Wall pics..

Essentially, the actual falling block of the Low Wall's more exposed than that of the High Wall version, thus arguably making it easier to chamber the associated smaller caliber cartridges.
Ironically, in the 1885 model, the .243 Win's a Low Wall as opposed to being a High Wall in the older B78 !?

Some Browning B78 High Wall pics & related data...

Note, I'm unsure of the overall accuracy of the following data - compiled from numerous websites. Also, further enlarging the relatively small sized internet sourced pics unfortunately results in the images being slightly distorted. Browning 1885 /B78 High Wall – some historical facts. The Browning ...

Re: My cherished firearms….

Marcus, note that my '56 BRNO's in the last pic. I'll post some more in due course. In the meantime, also note that its forearm is completely different in shape compared to the majority. I had it re-blued soon after buying it 'used' for $90 back in '76. Over the years its lovely slick and precise ac...

Re: How to fix common problems with BRNO / CZ .22 rifles...

Flip, I'd recommend your brother to first simply re-tension the the bolt's 'twin' claws retaining clip. In the process, it'll hopefully resolve his erratic ejection issue, as per mine.

Re: My cherished firearms….

Missed, such rifles unfortunately appear to be rare as hen's teeth. I've occasionally seen 22-250 Rem versions for sale but rarely any other caliber - except for a beautifully stocked 6mm Rem Miroku M78 version that was also owned by the bloke who sold me the B78 for $1100 back in '05. If and when t...

My cherished firearms….

A ’56 vintage Model 2 BRNO .22 plus a ’78 Browning B78 High Wall .243 Win falling block single shot lever action rifle – both equipped with Harris bi-pods. I’m also the custodian of my father’s old Browning .22 pump action rifle. Note, I'd be interested to hear from anybody who owns either a B78 or ...

How to fix common problems with BRNO / CZ .22 rifles...

Following an investigation to determine why my vintage ’56 Model 2 BRNO recently began to erratically eject cartridges & spent cases I’ve elected to share some acquired possible solutions for hopefully resolving relatively common problems associated with BRNO / CZ .22 rifles : If you are not abl...
