Re: Lightweight rifles?
Camel, pull your head in. We get it that you have some massive problem with the Howa Mini Action, it's existence has clearly offended you to your very core and is causing you to be quite obnoxious whenever it is mentioned. We understand your position loud and clear. If Lowndsie is considering a Tikk...

Re: Lightweight rifles?
Agreed. Balance is a very subjective thing, but when a rifle is balanced correctly it can work better for the purpose than one that is simply heavy, long or light. My earlier comment was not contradictory when taken in context of MISSED statement that length and weight help balance, short and light ...

Re: Lightweight rifles?
Weight and length help balance and to also soak up felt recoil. Weight and length have nothing to do with balance. Balance is the distribution of weight over length. A very heavy rifle can balance nicely but still be a PITA to carry. Similarly an ultralight rifle can balance very well. There are al...

Re: Lightweight rifles?
The T3 Lite is probably the best value in a lightweight factory rifle. The Weatherby MkV actions are surprisingly light for their size, but more expensive. Remington Model 7 or 700 can be light, but you really need to take all the Remington stockwork, etc. off and put an aftermarket stock on. The Ki...

Re: Ruger Hawkeye Predator .223
I think the Predators have the same trigger as the MkII VT rifles. That means a nice two stage. The weight spring is also the spring that returns the trigger sear back into position after the shot. The key with them is to not back off the trigger weight spring so much that the trigger does not retur...

Not that I have noticed.Mulga wrote:Do the 85 & 95 gr pills over-stabilize in a 1:8 twist and hold together, or does that make the effects more spectacular?
I can pitch some downrange in my 6.5 SAUM if you are truly interested. I should be able to get 3700fps from them.

Re: Most frangible .264 cal pill?
Sierra 85gn Varmit hollow point... Why would you compare these three projectiles to each other, would it not be better to compare the same weight in something like 243 and 257 calibre, even 7mm (if they make one) ?? You don't see many cartridges or shooters that run 55gn 22 cal or 39gn 20 cal at 28...

Re: Howa Mini
The April-June Guns and Game has a review by Andy Montgomery on the Howa Mini in 223. Andy's conclusion... In conclusion the Howa Mini performed well throughout the test, and we did little or no missing in the field. I would like to see Howa look seriously at changing the magazine latch to a push fo...

Re: Berger hunting.
Thanks for the replys. Guess i want to know if they will work on pigs and dogs. The target vld has a very thick jacket and doesnt expand is what i have been told. Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk Berger says that the Target VLD does have a thicker jacket, and whilst I've not used Berger target bul...

...I guess it does not really matter how much some of the resident experts around here read firearm factories at least do not always do what they think. Well, as usual that was probably aimed at me because you can't help having a dig at people who disagree with you. The methods I quoted are the nor...

Berger 130gn VLD Hunting, metplatted and pointed, 261m, Fallow neck. Starts out at 3250fps, was doing about 2880fps at point of impact. She didn't fall over, so much as dropped on the spot like all the strings were cut instantly. Only the skin and windpipe were holding the head on. When we got to he...

Re: Barrel length
Barrel length for a rifle, shotgun or pistol is from the face of the breech to the end of the rifling/muzzle. Barrel length for a revolver is from the forcing cone to the end of the muzzle. A muzzle brake does not add effective barrel length to a firearm, but if it is permanently installed (welded o...
